Car Auctions: What is an Online Car Auction?

Normally car auctions are live events held in an auction yard or some public event center. These auctions are often crowded with car dealers, making it difficult for the average buyer to compete with. Although this is a great way to find a good deal on a car, usually an individual buyer will find a much better deal on an online car auction. You may ask, what is an online car auction? There are several websites that run car auctions. A great benefit to bidding online is often you can look at the car for up to a week at a time.

The usual listing time is about five to seven days. This gives the buyer plenty of time to look at all the cars available at their leisure. They can browse thousands of vehicles for a longer period of time versus the limited time for viewing at a traditional auction.

Online car auctions often offer a search engine designed so the potential buyer can enter a make or model of a car they want; producing a results page listing potential matches. Often the buyer can also enter a location so they can find a car in their vicinity for convenient delivery.

Finding a local car will also help to reduce transport costs.

Pick up and delivery information is usually posted on the site or on the listing itself. This will outline the specifics of what the owner is willing to do in the sale process. This lets the buyer know exactly what they can expect and reveals any hidden costs.

When you purchase a vehicle online, be sure to check your state tax laws as well as the state it is being purchased from to determine any restrictions that may affect the final price. Often states will require you to pay tax at the time of the sale and your state will make you pay tax again once you bring it home. Also be sure to have all of the necessary paperwork on hand to get your car back home without any problems.

An online auction will also allow you to obtain the car’s history prior to purchase. They give you ample time to research the car history and check with the proper authorities to find out if there is any damage that may not be reported by the auction site. Auction sites are not liable for cars that are listed, so it is possible to run across devious characters who may be trying to sell you a lemon. Obtaining proper research regarding the car you want will allow you to avoid these pitfalls. I hope this has answered what an online car auction is.
